What are the „Demos“ and the Demoscene?
Unlike usual video animations, „demos“, which are audio-visual films, are generated pixel by pixel in real-time-mode. Therewith, artists present their skills to generate a highly effective code. Artists of the “demoscene” are often professionally engaged within gaming industries or animation studios. Their skills are required also in Hollywood. The origin of the demoscene goes back to the eighties, when ex-crackers, who used to remove copy protection of games started to form the movement.
On
demoparties demos are presented to and evaluated by the demoscene
community.
Although this computer related community plays an active part in
contemporary culture the demoscene itself and its productions are largely
unknown. The team of [d]vision works with partners of the scene to celebrate this living subculture together with the public at the festival 'realtime generation'.
