Exhibition
July 5th - 20th 2008, Opening July 4th
MuseumsQuartier / q21 Freiraum (Vienna, Museumsplatz 1)
In the total course of the festival the exhibition in the MQ Freiraum offers a closer look on the „demoscene“ to a bigger public and helps to reveal the answer to the question: „What are demos?”. The exhibition offers a wide range of demoscene’s products: from such „old school“ platforms, like C64, Amiga, Atari, Spectrum to those state-of-art PC and Xbox-based demos with stunning effects and soundtracks.

Special Guests: TPOLM^RGBA installation "real time tunnel":
MuseumsQuartier / quartier21 Raum D (Vienna, Museumsplatz 1)
Christian `caesar´ Press (TPOLM, Germany) and Inigo `iq´ Quilez (RGBA, Spain) will present the installation of a classic real-time tunnel effect to demonstrate informatics and philosophy of real-time mode. (Unfortunately the „Drifters“ canceled their performance)

Metalab (Vienna 1, Rathausstraße 6)
For this event on the last weekend of the festival, organisers expect 50-100 members of the international demoscene. The Metalab is aimed to support networking between international guests and local net culture artists in Vienna. Like a traditional „demoparty”, the event in Metalab will provide a demo-competition with a reference to Vienna

Party July 19th 2008
Wirr (Vienna 7, Burggasse 70)
Live-Acts with Austrian and international Gameboy-musicians and 8bit-DJs will rock the final party, organised in the course of the ’realtime generation’.

What are "Demos" and the "Demoscene" ?
Unlike usual video animations, „demos“, which are audio-visual films, are generated pixel by pixel in real-time-mode. Therewith, artists present their skills to generate a highly effective code. Artists of the “demoscene” are often professionally engaged within gaming industries or animation studios. Their skills are required also in Hollywood. The origin of the demoscene goes back to the eighties, when ex-crackers, who used to remove copy protection of games started to form the movement.
